I am fortunate in that I often find myself in conversation with Con McGarry. Last year we traveled together to the European Nursery Championship in Holland. We were due to travel again to it this year but of course, Covid19 changed all our plans. That said, I did get to travel with Con and two other directors, to ISDS meeting in Kendall in early February. It is always very enjoyable to travel with Con because he is a well of funny anecdotes and very amusing jokes!
But don’t be fooled by Con’s lighthearted disposition. Con is a widely renowned Irish handler and has been competing at the verytop level of sheepdog trials. Con is a contender for the Irish Team for every International and World Trial and has competed in many International Supreme Finals.
Brace Sheepdog Handler
Con has been competing in the Brace competion for as long as I know him too and has taken National Titles in both the Brace and singles competitions. But rather than try to list all Con’s achievements and accolades, I rather hear what he has to say about the Foot & Mouth epidemic in 2001, how it affected the ISDS,National and International Trials, dog training and more.
In 2004 Con won the Irish National with his two dogs in the soundcloud cover photo Dan and Gyp.
